The scandal of contaminated milk continues, China, and is even growing. We read here poisoned milk, tainted milk ... The verb adulterate means adding a foreign substance to a liquid.
adulterate is one of those words that come from abroad, particularly in the region of Flanders. Between the 15th and 18th century, we must know that the French army was committed to call other countries / regions ... well, Swiss, German, Flemish and fought with our troops.
And obviously, this proximity warrior, was accompanied by a parallel combination of words. Thus Is it to adulterate, which comes from the Middle Dutch verlaten , meaning decant wine. Over the centuries, the meaning has evolved to mean any liquid flawed.
Finally, foreigners are committed they not come "adulterate" the French troops?
